Making Myself Better

All the Warrior Dash pictures!

My mom had the foresight to suggest a “before” picture:

She told me I should never show this one to anyone, haha:

I looked around to see if Anna made it, but she wasn’t there. I did see jonathandoeslife and mr-smit, but I was too nervous to introduce myself since I’m not cool enough they don’t follow me. Next time I’ll do it.

First, we ran a little over half a mile. The first “obstacle” was walking through this water:

We climbed straight from the water into the sand and under the barbed wire for this:

I crawled for a while, then rolled accidentally. I realized how much quicker/easier it was.

Obstacle pics (from the Facebook page):

A series of about 5 jump over the wall/climb under the fence

Climb over the wall holding a rope

The hardest part for me- we had to swim to it, climb on the floating thing, clamber over it, and swim to the other side. I am NOT a good swimmer, especially with soggy tennis shoes on.

Then we had to run up the biggest hill I’ve encountered in the aforementioned soggy shoes. I have to admit that I had to walk some. I also walked the steepest part of the descent because I didn’t want to fall.

After the hill, we had the plastic sheeting slide thing, but it wasn’t wet enough, and I got stuck halfway down. Then we had to climb another kind of wall and slide down a pole.

More pics:

Other obstacles not shown are the cargo net and one more than just left my mind.

The pics from just before the fire:

I don’t know what the expression means.

Fire time!

Then more rolling under barbed wire:

And the final mud hole (under more barbed wire)

climbing out (pretty much the most attractive picture on tumblr)

Pulling up my shorts as I head for the finish line

30:13- not bad

water time!

“Hey. I was looking into maybe doing the warrior dash in Norcal in October. And I was wondering if you could maybe describe the fitness level I should be in to do it? Were there a lot of different kinds of people doing it (like big small old young)? I looked through your archive but I didn't see a post describing the race, sorry if I missed it though, or if it is yet to come :)”

You haven’t missed the post- I was waiting for the pictures to be posted and started putting the post together, but ran out of time before I left yesterday.

There was a huge range of ability levels doing it- very young up to elderly people and of various weights. Some people planned on walking the course and then doing the obstacles. There was even a blind man who completed it in one of the later waves.

You will need to be able to at least doggy paddle in the water, army-crawl on the ground, and do the equivalent of climbing a ladder- several times.

I’ll be posting pictures of as many obstacles as I can find online, but they do vary from location to location.

Oh, just flying over the fire…
Gun show Thursday will have to wait. It can be tomorrow… or next week… It’s time for bed.
Leg workout + 40 min. of scraping = done
Tomorrow is the last day of school for students!

Warrior Strategy: Roll under the barbed wire.

So much faster & easier than crawling.

My time:

  • 3rd woman to finish my wave
  • 20/807  in my age group for the day
  • 54th woman over all (I don’t know the  total, but a couple thousand)
  • 506/6186 total

Recap when the race pics are up to see if I have some from the middle obstacles.

What’s going on?

Woah! I got a ton of new followers overnight! Where did y’all come from? Is it because this picture is blowing up with the reblogs again? If you want to know more about me, this is the place. (It’s rather long and disorganized.) If you wonder why I don’t automatically follow you back, this is why. If you feel you fit the criteria, please let me know, here or in my ask I love making new friends. If you know you don’t fit, introduce yourself anyway! I can still be your friend!

(Do I need a new waving gif since my hair is gone?)

In other news…

  • Today I’m skipping school using one of my 3 remaining sick days that don’t roll over. I’m dropping off my schools Soles4Souls collection then driving to Georgia to my parents’ house with a stop at a thrift store or two on the way.
  • I won’t be on much today or this weekend because of this.
  • Don’t forget about the CD swap! I’ve gotten a few addresses already. Remember that you have until next Wednesday.
  • Tomorrow is the Warrior Dash! I’m going to go with regular socks because some of y’all made a good point about knee socks getting wet and heavy.  Jeremy and my coworkers, knowing how accident prone I am, are all convinced I’m going to get hurt, so my goal is just not to get hurt.
  • Today I weighed in because I wanted to take all my measurements (for the first time since Mar. 26) and I weighed 130.6. I don’t even know how that happened. I was 3 pounds heavier 2 days ago. I thought I was eating enough. I never have bog drops like that except right after a day or two of excessive eating. I haven’t been that low in over a year. It also means I’ve lost 39 1/2 pounds since my high weight.
  • On a related note, this morning I felt like my abs look better than they did those brief moments I was at my prior goal weight of 127. I may be slightly bigger now, but I’m definitely fitter.
  • Now I need to do my push ups & abs, get dressed, and pack so I can get out of here.

Have an awesome weekend, everyone!

Warrior Dash Questions

I pretty much have what I’m wearing picked out (nothing too exciting, which is intentional), but  I have a couple of questions.

  1. Knee socks or regular socks?
  2. What color are the shirts?
  3. Are there usually places to change after you hose off?

I think that’s it.

Help me out?

So who else is coming?

9:00 wave on Saturday for me.

I’ll be heading up there from my parents’ bright & early that morning.

Could somebody popular influential maybe start one of those reblog chain thingies so we can see who will be there?

I know y’all have been to lots of meet ups, but I’ve only met Pam. (By “only,” I mean she’s the only one I met. Meeting her was amazing and I can’t wait until we get to meet again to do trail runs.)  I’m going to be waaaay nervous (read: especially awkward) and would like to be prepared for whether it’s 3 people or 10 or what.
