Making Myself Better

One of my frozen strawberries tasted like dirt. :(

I had been looking forward to snack time all morning because I had the rest of the pineapple I cut with strawberries from the freezer.

The rest have been absolutely scrumptious, though.

My body makes no sense. Yesterday morning I ate an entire box of Walmart bakery white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies and didn’t I didn’t eat the rest of the stuff I brought.

I bought a single slice of Edward’s cookies & cream frozen pie from the Dollar Tree when I went to buy new running sunglasses.

I ate a normal sized amount of dinner at our friends’ house when we were babysitting AND ate one of the cookies that she made.

The only working out I did yesterday was week 1 day 2 of 100 push ups (10+12+8+8+26(max)=64).

Fridays are one of my weigh-in days. I was less this morning than Monday AND my waist & stomach were smaller than yesterday.

And I started today which makes the loss even weirder.

Somehow it makes me feel guiltier about the cookies.

I feel like I don’t talk about my life much any more. I do the question thingies and post pictures and my runs, but that’s it.  I’m going to try to put a little more me back into my blog.

So check out this mutant strawberry I ate a couple days ago.
It was delicious, which is what’s really important.
Expect photo posts today. No gun show since I did that yesterday.
Oh, where are all the new followers coming from?

This question comes to you from my mother, and a lot of people who send me asks. My mom WAS a yo-yo dieter, and every diet she’d ever been on recommended fruit and vegetables in excess…except some diets swore off “high carb” vegetables. She wanted to know what the deal was with this, so I thought…

1. There is no such thing as a zero calorie or negative calorie fruit/vegetable/food/etc.

I think this is one of the biggest myths. The rest of the info is great, too.

defeat-the-lazy:

Cleaning Fruit - fill sink with water, add 1 C. vinegar, mix. Add all fruit and soak for 10 minutes. Water will be dirty and fruit will sparkle with no wax or dirty film.

Look at my tiny clementines!
I’ll answer the anons after I ate.

7. Fruit
The flower is from the blackberry plant Jeremy bought, but the berries themselves are from a wild vine growing on our fence mixed in with the honeysuckle and muscadine.

Is this pineapple cute? It’s like a little girl head with a big, spiky ponytail.

New favorite thing to eat

plain, nonfat Greek yogurt

half scoop of vanilla protein powder

sprinkle* of yellow cake mix

fruit (the last few days have been blueberries)

*When I say sprinkle, I mean I’ve made this about a half dozen times and am only about halfway though a box of Jiffy cake mix than only makes one round layer.

25. green
Hopefully the birds won’t eat them all. It’s about time for them to fly back north.

When you buy fruit in 5 lb bags, you can’t fit it all in the fridge, so I put the extra in the clementine crate.

Back on my old blog, I posted this photo based on info I saw on a since forgotten website I found it. Well, it now has well over 2,000 notes, more than any thing else I’ve ever posted. It’s even on pinterest.
I decided to make the comparison even more visual by holding 3 grapefruit and 3 tangerines in front of my body. I tried holding all 6 pieces of fruit at once, but I kept dropping them before the self timer would go off.
(This is what that mad looking b&w picture was from.)

The cashier was less than thrilled that I bought 6 different apples.
From left to right:
Ambrosia, Gala, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Jazz, MacIntosh
Jeremy got the Gala because he was sad that I didn’t get any fruit for him. The Jazz McIntosh is for lunch today. I’ve never tried one.

When I went to Walmart to pick something for the Matchstick Challenge of try a new fruit or vegetable, the first one I saw was a quince, so I grabbed one.
After looking online, I discovered I would need to cook it. I found directions for baking quinces.
First I had to peel it:

Then I used my apple core & slice thing to cut it quickly. I cut the out the bits of core that stuck to the slices, then cut each slice in half for 16 total slices.
The directions said to drizzle honey over the slices and then put citrus juice on them. I used honey from my father-in-laws bees, but we didn’t have any kind of juice, so I sprinkled ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon on the slices.

Then I covered it with foil and baked at 300oF for 55 minutes.

They were nice and soft.
Then I arranged them on the plate to look pretty for the picture.
I thought the quince tasted good, but I don’t think it was worth the extra cost over apples or pears. I did enjoy trying something new.
