Making Myself Better

13. Landscape
This is actually from August. I didn’t go anywhere landscapey today.
I did run, though:

I went to the neighborhood with the hills that killed me in the summer. The one where my pace was over 10:00/mi for less that 4 mi. It was actually pretty warm (mid-70s) by the time I got out there so it wasn’t really any cooler, just less humid.
The first 3 miles were hilly, and the last 2 were pretty flat:

It felt pretty awesome to defeat those hills today, especially on little sleep.
Fit Teacher GOIO 7/25. I just realized that to make the goal and qualify, I have to do some kind of workout every day the rest of the month.
Oh, anyone else’s pace chart always crazy like mine?

12. On the table
mostly baby related things
I was too lazy to get out my camera and take a picture, so I just used my webcam.
Other things to mention:
Not cool, Montgomery City County Public Library. 11 branches and not a single copy.
I rode the bike yesterday: That’s Fit Teacher GOIO 5/25
Tonight I did an ab workout: 20 v-ups x2, 40 butterfly crunches, 20 v-ups x2, 50 butterfly crunches. GOIO 6/25
I posted a tutorial video on my hair blog.
Tomorrow morning I get to run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also tomorrow, Jeremy’s brother and his girlfriend are coming to see Ryland. Their mom is stopping by on her way back from the coast.
Montgomery is on the way to several Gulf Coast beaches. So if you’re passing through and don’t think I’m super boring because I don’t partake in activities that most of you consider crucial for fun, let me know and we can meet for an awkward hug or something.

GPOYW- I really don’t care if this “works” or not because I like it edition.
yep. wearing white jeans in October. with sparkly shoes.
and I managed not to get spit up on it.
and I worked out. not in these clothes, though:
10 complete ball pass reps
20 stability ball on the wall 20 lb squats below parallel, of course
20 side leg raises (each side) w/ stability ball (henceforth known as “ball”) between legs
20 20 lb sumo squats
40 double reverse crunches with ball between knees
20 things with my feet on the ball and I rolled it towards my butt to work hamstrings
20 side plank raises (each side) balancing with ball between feet (harder than it sounds)
20 (each leg) where I lay with my chest on the ball and alternated raising my legs behind me
40 20lb weight crunch on ball
stretches interspersed throughout

8. Angle (angled so you can see us & down the hill)
Ryland & I walked up and down the stair hill 10 times to make 1 mile in 19:20. If I had remembered the baby sling pack thing, I could’ve done more, but I needed to be able to use my arms the rest of the day.
Also, workout #3 for #Fit-teacher #GOIO. Even though I’m not teaching right now, I’m still giving the challenge a try.  I have some catching up to do. I also have a plan that I will share *later.
I also made a video while walking up one time. do you want to see it?

I wanted to take a good-bye classroom picture.

But there were all these teachers from other private schools looking at the building & our stuff.

So that’s the end of that.

Then, on the way home, I realized why I’m so attached to the scale: The two stretches of time that I went without weighing myself both ended up at unhealthy extremes.

The first was that semester in college I got obsessed and worked out too much and ate too little. I didn’t have a scale, and really didn’t care what it said. I just wanted to get smaller and make my stomach go away. I had a tape measure to track my progress and that was it.

The other stretch of time I didn’t weigh myself was when I was gaining, for obvious reasons.

Right now I’m more worried about slipping into the lower extreme if I stay away. I’m afraid that I’ll allow the number on the tape measure to get smaller when I wouldn’t let the scale keep dropping. I know I keep going back and forth on this. I know I need to work on finding a healthy balance without the scale. I just don’t think I’m ready to give it up yet.

I got white jeans! And  I wore them last night to Bible study! And I wore my new shirt with birds on it!

Today I am officially back at school. I don’t have much to do. I printed out my supply list & tweaked my parent letter. Right now I still only have 1 student. I don’t want to do my plans and everything until I find out if any more will register tonight. There’s no need to plan for ice breakers and get-to-know-yous if you only have one student, and it’s your 4th time teaching him.

I just looked up and saw a long spiderweb string going from the ceiling to my desktop monitor. I guess that’s revenge for sucking up all its little friends yesterday.

I kind of overdid it yesterday with eating after getting my appetite back, so the scale jumped up 2 lbs from yesterday. That’s the way it goes, I guess. Now my stomach feels weird again. :/

Tonight after open house, I’m planning on possibly doing ab work. Or I might end up having stuff to do at the house. I don’t know.

Lost more weight

I’m down another 0.6 lb from yesterday. You can tell it kind of has be worried. Drops like that only happen after I’ve gotten off track and then I have a good day of eating and the water weight comes off.

On top of that, yesterday I noticed that I’ve gotten dark circles under my eyes. I’m getting plenty of sleep, so I’m afraid it’s related somehow.

It’s also scary that if I hadn’t bee weighing myself, I wouldn’t even be able to tell that I looked any different from 2 weeks ago when I was 6 or 7 lbs heavier and I had trouble finding pants to wear to Bible study. Now those pants that were too tight would probably be too loose, but I can’t see it. That’s why I can’t go by what I see in the mirror. I can’t even go by how my clothes feel because it’s hard to keep track of which pants fit which way at which weight.

My stomach feels a lot better today, so hopefully I can switch to maintaining.

I’ll post yesterday’s run & workout after I vacuum my classroom. I brought my own vacuum because the school’s (don’t) suck.

Today’s birthday freebie was this delicious doughnut & coffee.
Yes, I needed them.
Yesterday, even though I had a (free) creamslush and (free) cheeseburger & fries, I was still down a bit in weight.
My stomach ache is still not gone, but it hurts less today. It’s the same thing as before- I woke up with it hurting, ate breakfast anyway, it hurt until I started to get hungry, I ate a little, but was still hungry so ate a little more, it hurt again until I got hungry again, I let myself stay hungry a while this time, and finally had the doughnut, coffee, and a clementine.
Today I tried on a pair of pants I really should get rid of. They’re from my low weight back in 2002. I was actually able to button them, and the muffin top they gave me a slight enough that if I liked having my pants super tight on my butt, I could actually wear them. That’s cool and kind of scary at the same time.
Now I need to seriously work on getting my room back in order because open house is Thursday night. Right now I only have 1 student, and our school only has about 1/3 of the students we need, so I’m not very hopeful. However, there could be a lot waiting for open house, so we still have to be ready.

#2 Lawyer/Judge

well, there ya go.

Amen. My friends are calling it the “law firm fifteen.”

Comforting to know its not just me/I wasn’t making this up…

My job is on this list.

snapthistiger:  i def agree with this article.  stress & lack of movement at work make it difficult to stay at a healthy weight.  difficult, but not impossible..

4. Teacher

Yep. stress+skipping lunch or eating quick easy things (+secret eating afterwards) led to my gain

Today

was one of those days where I felt like I was eating SO MUCH, but I don’t know if it really was. Let’s see: Kashi GoLean w/ milk | 2 doughnuts w/ coffee | flat out wrap w/ turkey, spinach, & provalone, apple, carrot, strawberry Greek yogurt, bite of another teacher’s chili cheese fries | clementine | shrimp, potatoes, salad | popcorn w/ milk | Arctic Zero.  No idea what it adds up to. Not really worried about it. I may even eat 1 more time before bed.

One of my coworkers did comment, “Look at Nikki over there crunching on her carrot while we’re all chowing down on chili cheese fries.”

WOD:

Week 4, Day 1 of 100 push ups (hands on a desk) with matching number of v-ups

18/22/16/16/25= 97 total.

If I can control my eating for a couple days, all the v-ups are going to make my abs ripped. Or so I hope.

My wrist is grouchy today.  Even doing the push ups on a desk made it hurt a little, though usually it’s fine. :(

Jeremy has stuck with the push ups, too. I write out his reps at the beginning of the week. He’s nearly doubled what he could do at the start. Tonight I told him that I could tell a difference since he started doing push ups, and he said, “Yeah, I’m pretty huge now.”

I said, “I wouldn’t say that, but you definitely have more muscle than before.”

He’s always liked to joke around like that.

★All the updates★

Except for my Warrior Dash post.

I’ll get addresses sorted out for the CD swap in the next couple of days. If anyone else wants in, send me an email at betternikki@gmail.com tonight or tomorrow.

I got 12 points for LDLC last week. I did push ups Sunday. I ate more than I should’vee, but didn’t break the rules I set for myself.

Today I get 1 point because I did secret eating. This week we need 12 points, so I can only slip up once more, or I won’t make it.

SoS:

5/22: 133.8 lbs, 26” waist

5/23: 133.8 lbs, 26” waist

5/24: 134.8 lbs, 26” waist

5/25: 135.0 lbs, 26” waist

5/26: X-out of town

5/27: x, 25 7/8” waist (still out of town, but remembered to measure)

5/28: 135.0 lbs, 26” waist

At least I maintained this weekend.

Today’s run:

4 miles, 36:29, 9:07 pace average.

I was planning on more, but my legs felt heavy from the very first step. Then I had to stop and go to the bathroom, and decided to stop.

Then I did 3 sets of 10 20” bench jumps.

After that, Jeremy and I sat for a while in the breezy shade.

I got my grades all done. Everyone passed everything. Tomorrow is our last day of work.

Our preacher’s wife called me today and told be about a possible job for the summer and maybe beyond.

The lunches from Chick-fil-a came in a large box today.

When the kids came in from P.E., the 3rd grade girl took it off the counter and climbed in it like this:

She wanted to scare people, so I closed the top and lifted it off the ground (don’t worry- not high enough that she could’ve gotten hurt) and started carrying. One of the high school boys asked if I needed help, so I put the box down and she jumped up and scared him.

We got a couple others, too.

I asked her how much she weighed, and after thinking about it, she said she was 73 last time.  So even though I do no heavy lifting since all I have are 10lb weights, I can deadlift at least 73. I know that’s not much to some of you, but it makes me feel pretty good.

I’ve seen a post about reusable sandwich bags going around.
These foodies are similar- reusable, dishwasher safe, all that.
They’re also cheaper- 2 for $9 instead of 1 for $8-something.
And if you enter the code 77479 in the school ID box, you can help my school. We would get 40% of the sales.
As it stands right now, we don’t even know if we’re going to get our last paycheck. We get paid today, but it may turn out that we work the last 2 weeks of school and don’t even get paid on June 1 like we’re supposed to.
If you’re going to order bags like these, please consider helping us out.

So who else is coming?

9:00 wave on Saturday for me.

I’ll be heading up there from my parents’ bright & early that morning.

Could somebody popular influential maybe start one of those reblog chain thingies so we can see who will be there?

I know y’all have been to lots of meet ups, but I’ve only met Pam. (By “only,” I mean she’s the only one I met. Meeting her was amazing and I can’t wait until we get to meet again to do trail runs.)  I’m going to be waaaay nervous (read: especially awkward) and would like to be prepared for whether it’s 3 people or 10 or what.
