Making Myself Better
Posts tagged "Ryland"

If you don’t hear from me much for a while…

It’s because tomorrow I’ll be busy getting ready to drive to Florida.

And buying little boy clothes.

And driving on Thursday.

Yes.

We got THE CALL today.

So now everything changes forever.

And now we will commence with the excitement gifs because there are no words.

p.s.

If we’re facebook friends, I haven’t announced it over there yet. We’re waiting to tell a few more people personally.

But since no one (that I know of) from real life follows me here, I had to get the excitement out somewhere.

Can’t sleep

too excited.

I guess I’ll answer messages and drink Sleepytime tea until the internet disappears again.

Also, losing followers in droves.

Relevant. Oh, so relevant.
4 years ago, we started trying to conceive.
3 years ago, we started going to doctors.
2 years ago, we started the adoption process.
19 months ago, we were on The List.
In less than 36 hours, we’ll be holding our son.

Ryland is so amazing. I forgot to mention his stats on Thursday- he was 18 1/2 inches long and weighed 7 lbs.

During the night, he only wakes up when he needs feeding or changing, and then goes right back to sleep. While on our “babymoon,” Jeremy and I are taking turns in the night, so we each only have to get up 2 or 3 times.

It still looks like we won’t be able to take him home until Tuesday, and Jeremy will have to drive back on Monday because that’s his last vacation day. My dad is coming down that day because my mom’s school is being all weird about letting her use her personal days, even considering the family leave act. Basically, she would have a job when she came back… somewhere in the county.

I like to make up songs.

In fitblr-related news:

  • my pants are all falling off and I don’t understand it
  • I’m also losing more hair in the shower and while combing and I don’t know if that means I’m not eating enough or if it’s because of sleep deprivation.
  • Yesterday a woman said, “Wow, look at you!” when we told her Ryland was 4 days old and she saw me. Then we told her we adopted.
  • I haven’t exercised at all except some walking around yesterday. I plan to workout a little in the hotel room tomorrow after Jeremy leaves while I’m waiting for my dad to get down here.

Yes, yes you are.
Our friends got us this onesie the day they found out we were adopting. My 8 1/2 month pregnant friend drove to the store to pick up this and a pack of newborn diapers.
Jeremy is gone and my dad is here.
The adoption agency said that Alabama just got our paperwork today, so it’s now doubtful that we’ll get to go home until Wednesday. :(
I called and set up an appointment with Ryland’s future pediatrician. I’ve been making so many phone calls throughout this process and have had very little phone anxiety. Major win.
My dad has to work from the hotel room most of the day tomorrow, so I may borrow his car and go somewhere for a little run. I’ve been very impressed with the number of runners I’ve seen every time Jeremy and I have gone anywhere.
I did a tiny workout today between laying Ryland down and my dad getting here: 15 dresser push ups, 15 v-ups, 20 squats, 15 side plank raises (each side), and wheelbarrow pose and camel pose to help stretch out my aching back. The one thing I wasn’t prepared for was the back pain. It’s really only when I lie down, though.
Ryland is waking now, so I need to go take care of him now.

First sweaty-post-run-baby-holding picture!
Yesterday my dad said he’d watch Ryland so I could run. Even though I’ve seen lots of runners, including solo women, the road our hotel is on is a bit too busy for my comfort, especially since the sidewalk is on the other side of the road.  I looked at the map we had for parks, and found one only a couple miles from our hotel that said it had “hiking” trails.
Since I’m running on less sleep than usual (probably around 6 hours, so not too bad) and haven’t run in a week,  wasn’t expecting a whole lot. I think my garmin was having trouble under the trees because at times it said I was running at a 11:xx pace, and I know I was faster than that, but that’s fine. The temp was nice but the humidity was crazy, not that I expected to get a break from that down here.

Hey, negative(ish) splits.
Also, flat enough, Florida?

Some things I saw during my run that I went back to photograph:
This tree was where I started my run. Pretty cool start:

umm, does that mean…

oh, it does mean that. (I didn’t see any, thank God.)
other things (from close to the parking lot):

Here’s a little video of Ryland.

We’re headed out towards the state line so we’ll be halfway home if they call today.
