I decided to go with the speed workout for this week of FIRST, which was 6x400m intervals. I calculated my target pace to be 7:32/mi., or 1:53/400 based on my goal half marathon pace.
This was the result:

All the splits:

We started off on this bit of a trail we saw some kids running on a couple weeks ago that’s beside the running path. Jeremy is an incredibly slow trail runner, haha. At times I was walking and keeping up because running that slow was making my feet hurt since I was wearing my fast shoes. When we got back to the path, I still had about 8 minutes of warm up remaining, so I picked up the pace some.
While running the intervals, I felt a bit like Dash at the end of The Incredibles: Woops! Too fast. Slow down. Don’t slow down that much!
They pretty much all ended up too fast, but that too fast pace actually felt easy. I guess that makes since considering that my fastest mile time is faster than that.
This morning, I calculated what my goal HM pace would be if I follow the FIRST formula of you 5k PR time +35 sec, then recalulated my 400 pace as 7:20, which is closer to what I ran them in. I just really don’t think I can run an entire 13.1 miles averaging an 8:35 pace. Maybe it’s just my lack of confidence, but the farthest I’ve run at that pace was 5 miles.
